I have never visited New Orleans and I have never participated in building a house.
Having the opportunity do both and participate in a larger and altruistic project is overwhelmingly exciting for me.
So far, after 11 hours in a Bonner van, the trip has been full of catching up, hearing each other snore, giggling at corny jokes and finding common ground in music selections.
Yet, getting to New Orleans is only a small and a rather insignificant part of our trip compared to what our mission is as Bonners.
It is such a privilege to be part of a Bonner tradition dedicated to extending our impact so far as the New Orleans community. After 10 years since Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, the documentary shown by staff showed different from what I envisioned.
It was very surprising to see how the affected areas were left in shambles and show slow progression to rebuild.
But we're here to here to help!
I enjoy traveling and visit all sorts of places but having the opportunity to to travel, explore, and work for a larger cause is such an amazing way to start 2016 and the lead into the semester.
