As I prepare to take the exhausting van ride down to New
Orleans, I am excited for what the upcoming 10 days will have in store. This
trip has been something that I have been looking forward to all semester and it
is finally time to begin the journey. This is a once in a lifetime trip, a trip
that I get to spend with all of my Bonner friends that I have made at TCNJ
while making an impact on the lives of others with this unique service
experience. I look forward to working on homes, and at the end of the trip
being able to see how I have personally been able to improve the lives of
individuals that lost so much.
I am
excited to see the city of New Orleans also, the wreckage that was caused by
Hurricane Katrina 10 years ago is still there today. I’ve seen many pictures of the tragedy, but I
think that once I see it in person it will really hit me the effect that this monstrous
storm truly had on the individuals of Louisiana. Though most of our trip will
be focused on the wreckage, I also look forward to the time that we will have
to explore and learn about the culture. The south has a completely different
lifestyle from us up north, and I am excited to learn about it.
Overall I
am ready to put 100% into this trip and get as much out of it that I possibly
can. Though I may have not packed enough in my bag, I have definitely packed
enough excitement to last the entire trip. See you later New Jersey, New
Orleans here I come!
